Has Your Home Been Tested for Radon?

Radon (Rn) is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil and may enter homes and buildings. Radon may concentrate indoors to unsafe levels and increases the risk of lung cancer if inhaled. The amount of radon in indoor air can be measured, and there are estimated risks to health depending on the concentration of the exposure. Smoking, in conjunction with radon exposure, greatly increases the risk of cancer. The EPA Risk Chart lists risks at different levels. Test your home’s radon level and if it is above 4.0 pCi/L take action to lower the indoor radon concentration. For more information about radon, see "A Citizen's Guide to Radon."
